UMGAMI WAMI!

Umgami Wami!

Revel with a Cause

The third annual Umgami Wami will take place May 9th 2009 at Agate Hall in Eugene. The following week, we're taking Umgami Wami to LA. All Funds raised by these two fabulous events go towards supporting education and medication for AIDS orphans in Bulawayo, Zimbawe.

Funds raised by the Umgami Wami benefits will be funneled to two sites.

Esandleni Sothando is an orphanage in Plumtree that provides schooling and empowerment camps for orphans in the Bulilima and Mangwe provinces. BUTIC.

Bulawayo Committee for the Terminally Ill provides schooling and support to AIDS orphans in Bulawayo. It is BUTIC's wish to establish long-term income-generating projects for care givers, so as to encourage independent income generation.

The Umgami Wami event is a collaboration between Lola Broomberg, a Counselor and long time teacher and performer in Eugene, her father, Dave Broomberg, a psychologist practicing in Bulawayo who is the founder of the Matabeleland Aids Council, trustee of the Bulawayo Mayor's Orphans Fund and the chairman of the Bulawayo Terminally Ill Committee, And ANCIENT WAYS, an Oregon Based Non-profit which supports educational and cultural development programs in Zimbabwe. Joinining us from Los Angeles, Caron Sapire and Lola grew up together in Bulawayo and Lianne Jedeiken-Goldsmith grew up in Harare.

At at time when many Americans are fretting about the recession and job losses, it is easy to lose sight of the many privileges that we do have.Though some are struggling to make ends meet, most of us take regular meals, access to schooling, clothing and support resources for granted. Zimbabwe is a country dealing with extraordinary hardships. Organiziations continue to offer respite to children in need despite lack of fuel, food, housing, schooling, teachers and medication.

The Umgami Wami Benefit changes lives in Zimbabwe. We are the resource that those children depend upon.

For the cost of one meal out on the town, you can make a lasting difference.

Donations to Umgami Wami can be sent to Lola Broomberg 728 West 19th, Eugene Oregon 97402 or use pay pal online and give online to Umgami Wami at http://ancient-ways.org

12 x 5 Minutes on a Box

12 performers will perform uninterrupted for five minutes on a box. Each Perfomer may choose to sing, dance, rail against the establishment, recite poetry, whatever floats their boat. The opportunity to perform will cost them $35 – the amount of money it costs to put a child in Bulawayo through school for a year.

Silent Auction

Haircuts. Massages. Art, Gardening Supplies, Theater tickets. Catered meals and more. The auction items last year blew people’s minds. We expect to get more and do more this year…. So if you got a shopping buzz going… you might want to check this out.

All Donations will be handled through the auspices of Ancient Ways, an Oregon 501(c)3 organization.
