imagine That! is an innovative creative arts camp where kids create a musical extravaganza performance in 10 days. Children rotate through classes in drama, art, music and dance. They make their own costumes props and scenery, write and sing songs, choreograph dances and script themselves in our wacky adventure story. Every camp culminates in a thrilling musical performance which is built collaboratively with an exciting crew of teachers.
What: ImagineThat! is a two week long day camp for children ages 7 - 13.
Where: Imagine That! has an exciting new location at Friendly Street Church, 2290 Friendly Street, across the street from the Adams School Playground where we will go for lunch and to play at the end of the camp day.
Times: The camp day runs from 10:15 a.m to 3:30 p.m. We also provide childcare for working parents.
Where does the story for the show come from:
The teachers of all three camps take a fabulous retreat together in May and design the story of the show for that year. The teachers take into account the needs of each age group whilst considering how each artistic medium can best support their creative process. All three camps share the same skeletal story outline though the three shows bear little resemblance to each other because of the different personalities of the children attending.
On Day 2 of the camp, the children are told the story outline. From that point on the production becomes what they make of it. They choose characters and script themselves, make costumes, props and scenery, write songs and choreograph dances.
Other exciting aspects of imagine That! that have become annual rituals are; the Talent show on the first Friday of the camp, the Weird food potluck that accompanies the final performance and Capture the Flag on Thursday of the second week.
